The Theta Drum is the only multi-layered ocean drum in the world, and can be used easily for sound healing, meditation and relaxation.  Handcrafted in Tuscany, Italy, these innovative instruments are a modern take on the ocean drum, which gives us a pathway to the ancestral sound of the sea, and the origin of Life, where everything began.  With two layers of distinct sound, the Theta Drum is the only ocean drum in the world that more realistically reproduces the “True Spirit of the Sea”, with its unmistakable sound of waves and surf.  

The Theta Drum helps the mind enter the Theta brainwave state:  inducing and enhancing inspiration, creativity, and relaxation.  Using it is an active sound meditation for the person playing as well as anyone receiving, as it is gently and subtly rotated in the hands, watching the small balls inside dancing together in two layers and creating a deep listening experience with continuous soothing frequencies.

3 LAYERS, 2 SEPARATED CAVITIES

The Theta Drum by Terredaria is the only ocean drum in the world with 3 membranes instead of 2, thereby forming 2 separate cavities. Inside these two cavities, there are two different types of beads that move separately from each other to generate two distinct sounds with different frequency bands.

The four Theta Drum models have been designed to achieve specific acoustic and vibrational effects that act differently on the body and on the subtle level of emotions. The quantity and quality of the beads determine the vibrational effects of the four Theta Drum models:

Meditation Exercise

Offered by the creators of the Theta Drum, here is a simple yet very powerful meditation to do while playing your Theta Drum, which helps you to harmonize your breathing with the sea.  

MEDITATION:

Sit in a comfortable position, being sure to keep all parts of your body relaxed, and breathe deeply.

Take the Theta Drum and hold it a little above your legs, then begin to tilt it slightly from side to side to set the beads inside in motion.

Breathe

Let yourself be guided by the vibration of the Theta Drum’s lower sounds. Feel how they make the wooden frame you are holding vibrate.

Associate the vibration you are feeling in your hands with that darker sound, seemingly the one most difficult to perceive.

Use your eyes to follow the movement of the smallest beads. Follow the movement as you begin to recognize their higher-pitched, clearer, and distinct sound.

Experience all of the Theta Drum’s sounds as you increasingly feel at one with the sea’s breathing

Breathe

Imagine yourself on a beautiful beach, the most beautiful and peaceful beach imaginable.

The sky is an intense, clear blue. Imagine walking slowly along the water’s edge, looking at your footprints from time to time.

With each step, you feel progressively more deeply rooted in the ground that supports you and you feel the fresh, wet, compact sand.

Breathe.

Go back to observing the trajectories of the Theta Drum’s beads and try to harmonize that sound with your breathing. Your breathing is like a wave in the sea. It rises during inhalation, reaches its peak, and then falls, just like a wave, fading away during exhalation.
You can also imagine riding a wave with your breath. Inhaling, you go up with the wave; exhaling, you go down. Inhaling, you go up; exhaling, you go down…

Our breath is like the waves in the sea, at times towering and restless, other times calm and placid. Still, whatever the condition, neither your breath, nor the wave cease to exist but are constantly re-forming.

When you feel that the Theta Drum in your hands is moving in sync with your breathing, observe everything that happens inside and outside yourself without being disturbed, without reasoning, without judgement. Thoughts, images, memories, moods, physical sensations, smells, sounds. Welcome them and let them flow.

Feel one with your Theta Drum as you move it to your own beat. Abandon yourself to the primordial sound of the waves and the surf. This is your personal sound – unique, wonderful, unrepeatable. You find a sense of calm and of renewal in this sound,

Now that you’re familiar with the instrument, experiment freely with all the sounds you can imagine, just as a child would. Shake it, rock it back and forth quickly, tap it with your fingers, sing along with its sound.

We are like water, vast and deep oceans, turbulent and agitated at times, violently tempestuous at others, but also placid and serene in our depths.

Like the sea, we too have the ability to accept any situation because of our profound awareness that no “external” condition can change our intrinsic structure, that world below the surface continues to live peacefully and inviolably in its totality.

Meet the Makers

Theta Drums are handcrafted at our Serravalle Pistoiese workshop in Tuscany.
Each phase of the long process is painstakingly carried out by our master craftsmen to arrive at a perfect result.

To achieve this, we have spent years researching suitable materials and developing the expertise necessary to craft our Theta Drums.

We have created a special glue for our membranes as well as built special machines, and created devices tailored for us.

We choose only the best woods to make our Theta Drums and inspect them one by one! Wood is alive and brings with it the love of those who work it.

One of the most delicate phases of the whole process is placing the beads inside the drum.  Each Theta Drum model requires a different mix of beads.

The quantity and quality of the beads determine the vibrational characteristics of the four Theta Drum models.
