Oasis #107 - E Pygmy 9 + 1 Stainless
E) A B C E G A B C E
The Pygmy is a renown favorite for its mysterious and magical vibes. As a pentatonic this instrument creates an energy that no matter where you go it sounds even more like the note that you went to was the note you wanted to play. Lots of flow to be had with all the emotional twists and turns available here.
Oasis #106 - D Voyager 8 +1 Stainless
D) F A C D E F A C
Voyager is one of the most popular favorites as far as handpan scales go. From novice to seasoned player this minor pentatonic has so many fun twists and turns it always feel like a never ending magic carpet ride.
Originally called Magic Hour it was first made by BellArt in D with 7 notes in the circle. As the upper 7th of the scale, the C, was added as an 8th tone in the circle the name was modified from Magic Hour to Magic Voyage. Many times now the 8 note version is just referred to as Voyager.
Oasis #105 - D Celtic 9 +1 Stainless
D) A C D E F G A C D
Hypnotic and magical the Celtic is one of the most desired scales due to its ease of endless flow.
As an extension of the traditional Celtic we add the sparkle of the triple octave D5 to the top shell for a cherry on top vibe.
Meet the Maker
Meet Adrian Enso, builder of Oasis Sound Sculptures. Born and raised in Hawaii, Adrian infuses his aloha spirit into every instrument he creates. He now resides and makes his sound sculptures in Los Angeles, CA.
Below is an excerpt of a great little online Q & A with Adrian with Mark D'Ambrosio in August, 2020:
What is meaning/inspiration behind your brand name, Oasis Sound Sculptures?
Oasis Sound Sculpture - This instrument has been, is, and will always be an Oasis for so many including myself.
How did you first discover the handpan?
A friend showed me a video featuring a handpan performer named Yuki in 2014 and my jaw dropped.
What is your goal as a handpan builder?
To make magical instruments that are portals to a meditative state. A timeless space of endless music and dreams. I honestly feel like this is the only true magic I have ever come across. The power of a beautiful pantam in your lap is like nothing else. A true spaceship to inner-space.
What would you say your instruments are known for?
Being warm and sparkly!
What are your most and least favorite things about being a handpan builder?
I love having built a magical gem and then being able to share it as well as be transported playing it. Least favorite would have to be the physical struggles of it being hard on the body and the endless barrage of seemingly insurmountable unexpected problems that arise.
If you could only play one handpan scale for the rest of your life what would it be and why?
Fully Diatonic 50cm D Kurd 16. The D Kurd 9 on the top shell is the holy grail of scales while the diatonic bottom creates a fully compositional instrument.
What's one interesting fact about you, your company, or your instruments?
