The Original Bamboo Harps

The Bamboo Harp is an amazing electric string instrument in two wonderful models which are either all strings (Heart Harp), or a hybrid with strings and percussion (Yadi Harp) on a central strong and light bamboo column.  This brand new world instrument was birthed in 2023 in a wonderful collaboration between Beautiful Sounds owner Kerem Brule and instrument artisan Supriyadi of Sacred Instruments Bali.

This instrument can be played directly with the fingers or with the  included set of mallets, and it comes in a full package with adjustable playing stand, carry bag, tuning wrench (or guitar tuners in the Heart Harp model).   Every bamboo harp comes with an incorporated electric pickup, which allows you to add special effects or simply amplify your strings through your own amplifier or speaker.

Meet the Maker

Story of Yadi

Yadi (Supriyadi) is a traditional and experimental musician and instrument maker from East Java, Indonesia. He grew up in a small village and started playing traditional instruments as a kid. First instruments were bamboo jaw harp and bamboo drum, and later string instruments - traditional harp and rebab Tarawangsa (seen above left picture).

Yadi’s love for wood came from his grandpa who was a wooden and bamboo house builder and Yadi could watch him working for hours. Later he combined his passion for music with love of wood and started his first attempts in making instruments at 19. Being a self-taught master, Yadi keeps on learning and experimenting with various instruments.

Bamboo is a big part of life and culture in Indonesia, it is a sacred wood, representing strength, flexibility and evolution. Most of the instruments made of bamboo are sacred as well and played for different ceremonies and rituals.

At the moment Yadi lives in Bali, having a small instrument workshop where he’s producing instruments for sound healing - such as monochords and healing harps, traditional instruments from Java and constantly experimenting with creating new instruments like the Bamboo Harp created in collaboration with Beautiful Sounds! He also plays for soundhealing sessions and traditional Javanese music performances.
